On November 30th, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, Shirley Chisholm was born to her immigrant parents from the Caribbean. Her father worked in a factory and her mother a seamstress. Being so, it made it difficult for her parents to raise her and two sisters. In 1929 all 3 sisters were sent to live on the island of Barbados with their maternal grandmother. There, Chisholm attended a small school and didn’t return to the United States until 1934.
